7 Signs Your Room Needs Acoustic Treatment

7 Signs Your Room Needs Acoustic Treatment

Most people put up with bad sound without ever realising it can be fixed. They turn the TV up, repeat themselves on calls, and wonder why their recordings never sound "professional." Nine times out of ten, the room is the problem — not the gear.

So how do you know if your space needs help? Here are 7 clear signs your room needs acoustic treatment — and the simple fix for each one.

1. You hear an echo when you clap or talk

Stand in the middle of the room and clap once. If you hear a short "ring" or slap after the clap, that is echo — sound bouncing off hard walls. It is the most obvious sign, and the easiest to fix with a few acoustic panels on the walls.

2. Music sounds boomy or muddy

If bass feels overpowering, uneven, or "one-note," that is low-frequency build-up in the corners. Flat panels will not fully fix this — you need bass traps in the corners to tighten up the low end.

3. People can't hear you clearly on calls or recordings

If you are constantly asked to repeat yourself on video calls, or your podcast and voice notes sound distant and "roomy," reflections are muddying your voice. Treating the walls around you makes speech instantly clearer.

4. The room feels loud and tiring

Some rooms just feel exhausting to be in after a while — a café, an open office, a tiled hall. That fatigue comes from constant sound reflections your brain has to work through. Absorbing them makes a space feel calmer almost immediately. This one is easy to miss because you get used to it.

5. Dialogue in movies is hard to follow

If you find yourself rewinding to catch what a character said, or reaching for subtitles in your own home theatre, the room is smearing the sound. A few well-placed panels make dialogue crisp and clear again.

6. The room is full of hard surfaces

Look around. Bare walls, glass windows, tiled or wooden floors, a concrete ceiling? The more hard surfaces a room has, the more sound bounces around. Rooms like this almost always benefit from treatment — soft, absorbent panels balance out all that reflection.

7. You keep turning the volume up, but it's still not clear

If louder never means clearer, the issue is not volume — it is the room. Clarity comes from controlling reflections, not cranking the dial. Treat the room and you will often find you can listen at a lower, more comfortable level.

The good news: it's an easy fix

If you recognised even two or three of these signs, your room will benefit from acoustic treatment — and you do not need to cover every wall to feel the difference. Start with the walls around your listening or speaking spot, add bass traps in the corners if things sound boomy, and you are most of the way there.

And it does not have to look clinical. Our decorative art panels improve the sound while doubling as wall décor, so the room looks as good as it sounds.
